Freebies at Career Fairs Ranked

Companies: take notes.

A couple of days ago, my school hosted a career fair with some of the most prestigious companies from around North America. While there, I made sure to pick up a bunch of freebies. Here’s what I picked up:

Phone Stand by AlphaSights

Score: 0/5

The phone stand that broke after a couple of hours

I was pretty excited when I picked up this free phone stand- unfortunately, this one was pretty low quality and could barely support my phone’s weight. It also broke after a few hours.

Fidget Objects by Savills and Market Axess

Score: 0/5

A squishy cube and a stretchy plastic rope

I’m not quite sure what compelled me to pick these up, but these are very low quality fidget objects. I should probably dispose of them after this review.

Earphones by EY

Score: 1/5

Earphones

I was super excited to pick up these earphones- and I’d have rated them higher if they weren’t possibly the worst quality earphones I’ve ever used before.

Highlighter+sticky notes by The Public Defender Service

Score: 2/5

The highlighter is actually quite nice, though the sticky notes are awkward sizes.

Chapstick by BD

Score: 3/5

Chapstick

Free chapstick is usually pretty crappy, but I was pleasantly surprised by how well this one has been holding up.

Free Folders and Notebooks

These aren’t of the highest quality, but it certainly beats buying them at the overpriced campus store.

Reusable Straw by Heidrick & Struggles

Score: 3/5

I can’t deny that this is a pretty sweet metal straw… on the other hand, will I ever actually use this? Rated a 3 for the pipe-cleaner that comes with.

Anti-Zuckerburg Device by Redfive

Score: 3/5

This was probably the most common freebie I saw at the career fair. Probably because it’s just two pieces of thin plastic- that being said, I can’t deny that it works pretty well.

Portable Measuring Tape by NIST

Score: 3.5/5

Measuring Tape

This is actually a pretty sweet measuring tape that measures up to 60in. and also automatically retracts after pressing a button.

A book about being happy after 50 by the CEO of AARP

Score: ???/5

A free book

I would have rated this, but I just couldn’t get through the first few pages.

And there you have it: all the freebies at the career fair ranked! What’s the best thing you’ve ever gotten for free? Let me know in the comments below, and thanks for reading!
